It's been over a year since Sony introduced the first CMOS 16.41 megapixels mobile phone (pictured right), but the company is now finally back with another participant in the race megapxiel: a sensor of 17.7 megapixels. It offers more than just a higher resolution, although, as is also the first Sony sensor with a bandwidth of 34.8Gbps (or about five times faster than previous CMOS sensors), which promises to allow for 120 of video frames per second at full resolution - assuming the phone's processor and storage are able to keep up, of course. Moreover, the new sensor is also said to have some improvement in consumption and, according to Nikkei, it appears that Sony is planning for use in digital cameras, cell phones as well, although there is no word when any of the available .
